Taxi thief grabs cab, ditches it on campus

An auto theft of a taxicab and car chase began and ended at SF State early Friday morning.

A cab driver near campus left his cab unattended while he got out to assist a passenger, leaving the keys inside. The suspect seized the opportunity and took off with the cab, according to a news report by CBS SF this morning.

The suspect fled the scene and SFPD began pursuit of the stolen taxi. The suspect led police all the way to Pacifica before turning around and returning to campus and crashing the cab.

Campus police said that the car was left on campus and the suspect fled on foot. The suspect, who has not been caught, was reported to be wearing a black hoodie. Students were questioned this morning to get any information on the suspect.

The incident left no major damage and no injuries were reported according to a CBS  report. SF State spokeswoman Ellen Griffin said, “campus police are working in a corporative effort to catch the suspect.”
