An SF State student was shot and killed in East Palo Alto Friday evening.

Police found Mark Madden, 20, dead from gunshot wounds when they responded to a shooting at 5:08 p.m. on the 1100 block of Laurel Avenue, according to various news reports.

His father, Marquis Madden, confirmed the death on Facebook early Saturday morning, which yielded dozens of supportive responses from friends.

Before he attended SF State, Madden graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, Calif., according to his Facebook.

Members of the SF State community have grieved in posts on social media since the incident, some expressing their disbelief.

Officials are investigating the incident this morning, and ask that anyone with information contact East Palo Alto police.
