Authorities said the shooting took place in an upscale neighborhood in the western part of Florence named Vintage Place at around 2 p.m. and ended around 3 p.m. The suspect is a male, but his identity is unknown at the moment. According to Deputy Glen Kirby, the suspect surrendered to deputies after talking with a negotiator.

The South Carolina Gov. Genry Mcmaster tweeted, “This is simply devastating news from Florence. The selfless acts of bravery from the men and women in law enforcement is real, just like the power of prayer is real.”

Nadia Hamid, an international relations major reflects on the situation, she said “When I heard of it before class I wasn’t shocked at all, I feel like we are getting used to these types of situations happening around America.
