Woman sexually assaulted in SF State dorm room

An 18-year-old woman was sexually assaulted inside a dorm room in the Towers at Centennial Square at SF State Friday night.

The woman, who according to University officials was not an SF State student, went with friends to attend a party in The Towers around 8 p.m. Friday, according to University police.

She was waiting in the lobby while her friends went to locate the party when she was approached by an unknown male who told her he knew where she was going and that she could come with him.

Believing the suspect knew the location of the party, the woman entered an elevator with him. As the elevator doors were closing, the woman noticed her friends exiting the elevator on the opposite side and tried to join them, but the suspect grabbed her from behind and would not allow her to leave, according to police.

The elevator went up to an unknown floor where the two entered an unknown room. The woman believed the party was taking place there. Once inside, the suspect proceeded to sexually assault the woman. When the assault ended, the victim was able to flee and relocate her friends.

The suspect is described as 5 feet 8 inches, 180 pounds, approximately 18-22 years of age, of mixed race and with short hair. It is not known whether he was a resident or a visitor.

San Francisco State Police Department asks anyone who saw or heard any part of this incident to contact Inspector Abe Leal at (415) 338-7200 or (415) 338-2222.
