Women’s track and field aim for success at conference championships

The beginning of the Women’s Track & Field CCAA Championships at Triton Track and Field Stadium in La Jolla, CA begin on Thursday, May 2. SF State boasts many athletes that rank highly among track athletes from all over California.

If their exceptional regular season marks are any indication, the Gators are poised to earn podium finishes at the championships.

Junior Monisha Lewis tied for third in the 100m, with an 11.85, a personal best, from the 2019 Hornet Invitational on March 15. Senior Jazmine Smith picked up  first in the 400m, with her most recent time at 54.28, a personal bes.  She also finished fourth in CCAA for the 200m, with her most recent time of 24.63, from Mt. SAC Relays where she placed 5th.

Alexis Henry, a senior and one of the program’s most decorated athletes sits in first place in the CCAA for the 200m, with her most recent time at 24.31, from the Stanford Invitational where she placed 11th. Henry also placed third in the CCAA for the 400m, with a time of 55.13, from Mt. SAC Relays where she placed seventh.

Junior Timarya Baynard pulled up second in the conference 400m event, with her most recent time of 54.51 from the 2019 Hornet Invitational where she came in 1st.

The SF State women’s track and field team are in first place in the 4×100 relay, boasting a time of 45.40, from the Brutus Hamilton Invitational, from this past weekend. The women’s track and field team hope to keep up the success in the CCAA Championships where success is something the program has a history of in recent years.
