Women's basketball suffers tough loss to Humboldt

The SF State lady Gators basketball team coped with a heartbreaking 65-66 loss Friday at home against Humboldt State.

Humboldt State’s Bree Hasley tipped the ball into the Lumberjack basket in the last two seconds of play, giving SF State no chance to reclaim the lead.

The Gators struggled offensively in the first half, shooting only 21.4 percent from the field, landing nine of their 42 field goal attempts.

After halftime, the Gators came back with a vengeance, closing the deficit and taking the lead 56-51 with seven minutes of play remaining.

Despite a hard-played second half, the Lumberjacks bested the Gators beyond the arc by connecting on 12 of 28 shots from three-point range, but it was the Lumberjack’s luck in the paint that sealed the Gator’s fate in the last two seconds of the game.

Although the team fell painfully short of the win, all five starters recorded double digits, with Nicole Hicks, Erica Greer, and Michaela Booker each with 13, Sherika Miller ending with 12, and Dominique Hunter contributing 11 for the 15th double-double of her career.

The lady Gators will host the Sonoma State Seawolves on Saturday to compete for the final conference playoff spot. Tipoff will begin at 5:30 pm.
