CSU Board of Trustees to hold open meeting on SF State presidential search

The California State University Board of Trustees will begin searching this month for a new SF State president.

The committee will hold an open meeting on Monday, Feb. 20 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Seven Hills Conference Center on campus. This forum will be the only open meeting of the committee during the process. It will be followed by a closed meeting of the committee at 1 p.m.

“The purpose of the meeting in an open forum is to review the role of the committee, receive comments and input from the public and campus community, explain the search process and confidentiality, confirm the schedule of meetings, discuss preferred attributes of the next president, review the descriptions and needs of the campus and presidential position, and discuss any other business related to the search process,” according to a press release issued by the CSU.

Two separate committees are formed to help assist in the search for the new president–the trustees committee and the advisory committee.

The trustees committee will include CSU trustee Roberta Achtenberg, who will chair the committee, Kenneth Fong, Melinda Guzman, Peter Mehas, trustee chair Herbert L. Carter and CSU Chancellor Charles B. Reed.

Members of the advisory committee will include: Alexander Gonzalez, Sacramento State president; Gwyneth Borden, manager of corporate citizenship and corporate affairs at IBM; Leona Bridges of the SF State Alumni Association; Maxine Chernoff, chair of the creative writing department; history professor Trevor Getz; John Gumas, chair of the SF State Foundation; Andrew Gutierrez III, president of Associated Students; Lorna Chang Hill, supervisor of undergraduate admissions; Robert J. Nava, SF State vice president of University Advancement; Pamela Vaughn, chair of the Academic Senate.

President Robert A. Corrigan announced in August 2011 that he would retire at the end of the year. Corrigan has served as president of the University since 1988.

The CSU expects a new president to be selected by the Board of Trustees in May.
