Men’s track and field make championship appearance after 15-year lull

Mens+track+and+field+make+championship+appearance+after+15-year+lull

For the first time since 2004, the SF State men’s track and field were represented in the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships. In their first season of renewing the men’s program after a 15-year lull, the team found their way into the postseason.

Jacob Garrissere, Michael Kilgariff and Austin Sanchez competed in the 1500m and 5000m.

Sanchez took 16th place in the 500m and Kilgariff took 20th place. Garrissere participated in the 1500m and finished with a time of 4:20:65.

The program looks to build off this season’s success and will try to make back-to-back CCAA championships appearances. With the program reintroduced into the athletic lineup, it will be important to have returners on the program to continue the same culture and identity that has been established.

While the women’s track and field team has enjoyed success these last couple seasons, repeating as back-to-back conference champions, the men’s team has begun to make a name for themselves. SF State looks to develop the men’s program to create a dominant track and field program from both the women’s and men’s side.
