University police reports attempted robbery over weekend

An attempted robbery was reported to University Police near the main entrance of the library Saturday at 1:15 a.m., according to a University report.

A man reported being approached by an unknown male suspect as he was walking on the inner campus pathway near the J. Paul Leonard Library where he was asked if he had a phone, according to a Clery alert the University sent out Monday. The report stated that the suspect then told the victim “I know you have money.”

After following the victim, the suspect allegedly threatened assault and demanded money from the victim, the report stated.

The victim entered the library and the suspect was last seen running away in the direction of the Humanities Building.

The victim described the suspect as a 5-foot-10, 20-year-old African American man with a bald head. He was wearing blue jeans and a beige, red and gray sweater with the letters “USA” on the front, according to the report.

“University police are continuing their follow-up investigation and will continue to provide relevant updated information as appropriate,” Associate Vice President of University Communications Ellen Griffin said in an email.

Anyone with further additional information is encouraged to contact the SF State University Police Department at (415) 338-2222 or the anonymous tip line at (415) 338-3030.
