Here’s an update on campus crimes that occurred between Sept. 28th and Oct. 5th.

This is not a drill

Fire alarms are often pulled to avoid a looming midterm or to create chaos for fun (sometimes both). However, the fire alarm was appropriately pulled last Thursday when a fire went off in the Village apartments at Centennial Square. When SF State police arrived, the residents had already put the fire out.

Party all the time

While Monday night is often reserved for homework or football, some SF State students decided to treat it like a weekend and threw a house party last Monday night. SF State police were contacted, and not only shut the shindig down, but cited one resident for marijuana possession. Had the residents been smarter, they could’ve told the police they were studying the Nordic tradition of the crayfish party for their Northern European culture class. But, they didn’t do this and they were cited instead. Maybe next time guys.

Theft is common at the SF State campus. And while most thefts happen either after hours or at the bookstore, that doesn’t mean thieves won’t strike during the day. Last Monday, an SF State student had their purse, with about $1000 worth of items, stolen near The Village. In order to prevent theft, considering attaching your belongings to your ankles so your weight acts as an anchor. A thief won’t see that coming! Alternatively, keep a easily-agitated animal, such as a raccoon, in your bag as a deterrent. The raccoon won’t favor this, nor will the thief when said raccoon claws his face. Xpress has never attempted this, so your mileage may vary.
