The Latinx Faculty, Staff and Student Tardeada took place on Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 4-6 p.m. at Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center.

In the wake of the 50th anniversary of the creation of the College of Ethnic Studies, the event aimed to unite student organizations, particularly those revolving around Latinx people, SF State faculty and staff.

The event was put on by Raza Faculty and Staff Association and the Division of Equity and Community Inclusion. Faculty from Latina and Latino Studies to Health professors attended and circled the tables of clubs receiving flyers and signing up for emailing lists.

Sororities such as Alpha Pi Sigma and fraternity Lambda Theta Phi tabled in addition to organizations like Institute for Civic and Community Engagement and student organizations like Nahuatl Tlahtocan and La Raza.

All organizations involved expressed pride and passion in an invigorating Latinx culture at SF State.

According to Forbes, SF State’s student population is more than half Asian and Hispanic.

Norma Salcedo, AB 540 Dream Coordinator at the Dream Resource Center put on the event. “I want to be able to speak to a body of students who care about Latinx people about starting up a Latinx Resource Center, which the Division of Equity and Community Inclusion is developing to advise and lead a proposal for,” Salcedo said. “I’m impressed by the variety of Latinx support there is here,” said John Costa, an attendee at the event. The event featured group dance activities, Latinx music, and Latinx food.
