Corporal Velez of the UPD said that he believed it may have been a short circuit that caused the truck to catch fire, but the exact cause is currently unknown.

Waste management employee Rogelio Domingo said that he was inside the Student Services Building when he heard over the radio that his vehicle was on fire. According to Domingo, the vehicle had stopped abruptly while going up State Drive.

There was a large amount of smoke and a small fire in the bed of the vehicle before SFFD put it out shortly after its discovery. No injuries were reported.
