The holidays have always been big for fashionbut this winter, the Fashion Network Association is upping the wow-factor with a fashion show fueled by 30 student designers.

Revive

When: 7 p.m. Dec. 6. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

Where: Jack Adams Hall in Cesar Chavez Student Center

Cost: $5 with student ID, $10 general admission. Tickets sold at door half hour before show.

Every semester FNA, a group of fashion gurus, volunteer their time to produce a show dedicated to an end-of-the-semester showcase of student work. Revive comes to Jack Adams Hall in the Cesar Chavez Student Center at 7 p.m. to bridge the gap between the students and alumni of SF State and the vast fashion industry. This time around, the show will feature garments from apparel design and merchandising students, ADM alumni and non-ADM students

“The show name Revive is focused on bringing back alumni who have graduated from our program and the importance in keeping them a close connection after we graduate ourselves,” Kayla Odwald, president of FNA, said. “For the first time, the FNA is bringing back two very talented alumnus to showcase their new designs.”

The overall look of the collections will be on a darker color scale featuring shades like oxblood, deep blues and greens. In addition, designers look to make their pieces unique and cohesive.

“My materials are a mix of light and fluid fabrics as well as more structures fabrics,” said Iris Chu, lead designer for FNA. “Being actively inspired and creating new and exciting designs clearly shows the woman I would like to design for.”

All of the hard work and dedication gave these designers motivation to reach their dreams. Mandatory rehearsals will be held the night before the show. Students get ready as early at 8 a.m. the day of the show.

“One of the biggest challenges the FNA faces before any show is making sure everyone understands their schedule,” Calzad said. It’s extremely important that each person knows what they must do — make sure models know who they are walking for and that designers understand the process of organizing backstage. It will get hectic, but communication is key.”

Other than the hard work, the show will have many exciting components throughout the night. ADM Alum and designer Christopher Collins from “Project Runway” season 8, will speak about his designs and his contemporary women’s ready to wear designs, Lifestyle Beyond Luxury, to the audience and designers.

This will be the first time the FNA will be having a guest speaker where everyone will get to gain insight on how Collins excelled in the fashion industry.

The FNA will have a raffle, and each guest who brings a toy to donate to Toys for Tots will receive a free raffle ticket for prizes.

“This event is for everyone, fashion forward or not,” Odwald said. “This winter runway show is important to myself and the rest of the FNA because we have extremely talented designers creating looks and lines for this runway show.”

Because the show is a platform for non-ADM students as well, Revive will be an opportunity to connect with the fashion world of SF State and not just those in the program.

“I’m excited to see the fashion community built by SFSU and the talents that comes out of it,” Sophie Calzada, website chair for FNA, said. “The school has a good program that allows the students to interact with the fashion community by allowing FNA to put on this show, and it’s a chance to see all the hard work that budding designers put into their creations.”
