Student Services

January 31, 2023

The return to campus for the spring semester featured a flurry of activity in the Student Services Building on Monday afternoon.

Students wandered in throughout the day to receive assistance with financial aid, academics, scholarships and access to tutoring. Inside, dozens of students stood in line at different windows. Others picked up their student identification cards for the new semester.

“It’s the hub if you really need to know anything about campus or just the school in general,” said Hayden Sutty, a member of the service support team and SF State cinema major. “We have the knowledge and resources to help with any issues that each individual may be facing.”

Sutty works in the building with his roommate, Cooper Perry, a broadcast and electronic communication arts major. The duo was in charge of a working table stationed directly in front of the main entrance, helping students with any quick questions they may have.

According to Perry, the most common questions they’ve received have been about finding the locations of classrooms. To minimize confusion, they printed out copies of the campus map.

“A lot of people don’t really have a clue where they’re heading and it’s our job to redirect them where they’re supposed to be,” Perry said. “I started working here in 2020 –– during the pandemic when it wasn’t decided yet if we’d be back on campus. We just want to advise students that we are simply here to assist.”

The Student Services Building is also home to the Office of Financial Aid.

Students checked out Fin Aid February, a promotion for students to receive help on their Free Application for Federal Student Aid and any California Dream Act Applications.

According to the office, representatives from FAFSA and SF State will be available on campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. throughout February outside of the Student Services Building. Nine information sessions will take place from Feb. 9 through Feb. 24.

The Student Services Building is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.
