Finding parking at SF State is notoriously difficult on an average day. On the first day of the semester, it’s a nightmare.
What started as a seemingly slow scene in the Lot 20 parking garage at 8:30 a.m. seemed a cacophony of honks, squeals and slamming doors an hour later.
As students lined up outside of payment kiosks, cars swerved in and out of the garage as their drivers found no respite in the form of a spot.
Even the streets along Holloway found themselves filled to the brim with students and faculty trying to get to school.
“I had to park all the way over by the high school this morning,” said Andrew Hoffmann, a first year speech therapy major. “I don’t think I’ve seen it this crazy.”
To park in any lot at the university, students need to purchase a parking pass. Daily passes can be purchased from any of the kiosks available in Lot 20 or online.
Semester passes are limited to a first-come first-served basis. Students have options of a $320 Tuesday and Thursday pass, a $480 Monday, Wednesday and Friday pass, or a $500 daily pass. Each pass includes a discount for students living on campus.
Since passes are limited, long-distance commuters will want to obtain one for themselves at the beginning of the semester.
