San Francisco Supervisor’s City Operations and Neighborhood Services committee voted 3-0 in favor of sending a proposed public nudity ban to the Board of Supervisors.
District 8 Supervisor Scott Wiener proposed the ban of public nudity in parks, plazas and on public transportation, citing concern in the community.
Wiener represents the Castro District and its surrounding neighborhoods. An increase in public nudity in the Castro’s Jane Warner Plaza prompted the proposal.
The ban would not prohibit nudity at local fairs and festivals, such as the Folsom Street Fair and San Francisco Pride Festival.
The Board of Supervisors will vote on the proposal Nov. 20. If the ban passes, a first-time violations will cost you $100 and repeated violations may be fined up to $500.
