An estimated 5,100 residents are currently without power in the Bay Area as of in result of this morning’s storm, according to an email from Fiona Chan, PG&E’s spokeswoman.

Chan said the outages are a result of damaged utility poles due strong winds and heavy rain.

As of 1 p.m., power outages are affecting 2,000 customers in the North Bay, 1,800 in the Peninsula, 930 in the East Bay, 230 in the South Bay and 140 in San Francisco.

The National Weather Service has issued a flood and high surf advisory for the entire Bay Area until 2:30 p.m. and wind gusts of 20-30 miles through the afternoon.

The Department of Public Works is reporting flooding on city streets including southbound on the Great Highway, which is currently shut down. The department also reported smaller floods as a result of clogged storm drains. Throughout the city numerous tree limbs have fallen, according to Rachel Gordon, spokeswoman for the department. City workers are underway to clear out any debris from the storm.

PG&E is hoping to restore power by the afternoon in time for the evening commute.

“Crews are working around the clock as quickly and safely as possible,” Chan said.

According to the National Weather Service, this is the beginning of a series of storms that will continue to affect the Bay Area Friday night with heavy rain and wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour. Wet weather will continue through Sunday evening.
