Two people were injured early Thursday morning in a fire that started on the sixth floor of the Parkmerced apartments on Cambon Drive, near SF State.
Fire crews responded to the two-alarm fire at 12:22 a.m. and quickly evacuated the high-rise building, according to Lt. Mindy Talmadge, the public information officer.
Resident and neighbor Devon Henderson, 20, said “the firemen broke through the door and evacuated them (the residents).”
Henderson said that other residents of the building were frustrated that they were forced to wait outside long into the night for fire department officials to let them back into the building.
The two people injured were residents of the building, and their injuries are not known, said Talmadge. Fire crews had the fire under control at 12:49 a.m. Residents were allowed to return to their homes, except for those living on the sixth-floor which was where the fire first started, according to Talmadge.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
