The SF State softball team fell short after losing a doubleheader series against Cal State San Bernardino.

Game 1 

The Gators quickly started off fine up until a rough fourth inning contributed to a 7-0 defeat.

The Gators found themselves trailing in the fourth when sophomore starting pitcher Lindsey Cassidy gave up four runs.

Junior Megan Clark soon replaced Cassidy and gave up two runs. The Gators had a total of 10 strikeouts.

“I think we played great, but if we had made a few adjustments here and there, who knows what ball game would’ve look like,” senior pitcher Jenny Obbema said.

Game 2

A different performance was seen in game two as the Gators showed a different ball game and made some re-adjustments to their lineup.

“Something that we really preached over in the fall was to make sure that we recover from our mistakes quickly and that we learn from them,” head coach Lisa Allen said.

Obbema was the starting pitcher for all seven innings of game two where she only gave up one run and one walk. She also had one strike out.

Obbema said that she feels like the team has more confidence this season as oppose to last year and believes the team has a great support system.

The Gators managed to get a total of 12 assists during the match, with senior shortstop Jennifer Lewis contributing with four great assists and 1 putout.

“We always go into every games playing our style, if we go in playing our game nothing can defeat us,” Lewis said. “Some things could’ve been changed differently, but we learn from our mistakes.”

Coach Allen said that they plan on working on some bunts this upcoming week and also focus more on hitting the outside pitch prior to the game against Cal State Monterrey Bay on Friday.

The Gators have a 4-5 record and find themselves in 10th place in the CCAA standings
