The department of Jewish studies will be hosting a lecture series titled “The Holocaust Across the Disciplines,” beginning on Thursday Oct. 4 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. with two lectures by Dr. Herwig Czech and Dr. Edith Sheffer. Free and open to the public, tomorrow’s lectures will be at McKenna Theater in the Creative Arts Building.

Czech, who has done extensive research on Hans Asperger, is a postdoctoral at the Medical University of Vienna. Sheffer, a senior fellow at the Institute of European Studies at UC Berkeley, has written “Asperger’s Children: The Origins of Autism in Nazi Vienna,” a book explaining the emergence of autism in Hans Asperger’s research under the Third Reich.

The event is the brainchild of professor Kitty Millet, who is a recipient of the Morris Weiss Award for Holocaust education in the Bay Area.

“One of the things I wanted to communicate through this lecture series was the idea that students, regardless of what discipline or major they have, have a stake in finding out certain aspects,” Millet said. “They’re going to shape the knowledge we have of the Holocaust in the future.”
