Three SF State students have been diagnosed with chickenpox, a highly contagious disease also called Varicella, between April 23 and May 13, 2016 according to Alastair Smith, director of Student Health Services.
People may have been exposed to the chicken pox while on campus in the following areas: J. Paul Leonard Library, University Park South, the Humanities Building, the Fine Arts Building and the Creative Arts Building.
Symptoms may not be evident until 10-21 days after exposure.
Members of the SF State community who have not had chickenpox or two doses of the chickenpox vaccine are at higher risk of contracting the disease according to Smith.
