The SF State women’s basketball team narrowly escaped with a win Thursday against Cal State Stanislaus, avenging their six-point loss earlier in the season.
The Gators beat Stanislaus 73-70 but were challenged from the start with pressing defense in the backcourt with the Warriors’ guards, Christin Gowan and Theresa Henderson, combining for seven steals between contributing to SF State’s 21 turnovers.
Despite the turnovers, the Gators moved the ball around setting up jump shooters like sophomore guard Nicole Hicks, who had a career high 26 points. The Gators also won the rebounding war against the Warriors with a team total of 46; center Dominique Hunter grabbed 18 rebounds to go along with 18 points and six assists.
The Gators contained Stanislaus’ leading scorer and rebounder Katie Busi to 38 percent shooting.
The Gators go in tomorrow for their final home game of the season with a chance to still earn a spot in the women’s CCAA tournament if Sonoma State loses to Cal State Dominguez Hills Friday.
