Although there was change of location for game three of the World Series, there certainly was no change of pace for the Giants as they took their third victory from the Detroit Tigers in a 2-0 defeat.
The top of the second proved to be the most eventful inning of the ball game, with Hunter Pence taking a walk from Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. Brandon Belt followed up with a strike out, but Pence took full advantage of his time on base as he stole second base and shortly after took third on a wild pitch.
Gregor Blanco then took to the plate, hitting an RBI triple scoring Pence to take the lead for the Giants. Brandon Crawford returned the favor when he had a base hit to center field scoring Blanco and stretching the Giants’ lead 2-0.
Although the rest of the ball game remained scoreless, the Giants’ defense continued to put on a show, proving their all-around strength by holding the Tigers for the rest of the game.
Sergio Romo was the final closer for the Giants, and held his own as he went three up three down and shut down the game with a strike out to Omar Infante to finish the Tigers off.
The Giants will face the Tigers tomorrow in Detroit at 5:07 p.m. in what could be the final game of the World Series.
