Special Education credential program receives grant
The U.S. Department of Education will provide SF State with a grant to aid students who want to become early childhood special educators, a career that is in demand.
The 1.2 million dollar grant will aid the Careers and Inclusive Resources Related to Children’s Learning in the Early Years (CIRCLE) program, a post-baccalaureate credential program in Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE).
Funds from the grant will disperse in January and cover a five-year period. The money will go toward student tuition stipends, student recruitment, and related special education programs throughout the Bay Area.
Creative State hosts free arts festival
The College of Liberal and Creative Arts will host a free arts festival showcase this Sunday, to open the new season of the SF State Morrison Chamber Music Center.
The festival will feature SF State music ensembles and artists in the Creative and Fine Arts Buildings from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Free tickets are required and can be obtained through the college’s website.
Taiwanese Alumni create scholarship fund
The SF State Taiwanese Alumni group have put together a scholarship fund to support students from Taiwan that are enrolled at SF State.
The Alumni group has acknowledged the large number of students from Taiwan who study abroad at SF State are required to pay a high out-of-state tuition. The scholarship fund is meant to alleviate the high cost of tuition for this group of students.
The first scholarship will be given in Fall 2014.
ROMC sets dialogue for Banned Book Week
The Richard Oakes Multicultural Center at SF State will celebrate the last day of banned book week, tomorrow, Sept. 26 with an art exhibit and artist dialogue.
The purpose of the event is to give students the opportunity to share their thoughts to create discussion on banned books. The week has been lined with open mic book readings, book binding lessons and giveaways.
The ROMC will bring banned book week to a close with artist poster exhibit and dialogue with Melanie Cervantes from Dignidad Rebelde, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The ROMC is located on the Terrace level of the Cesar Chavez Student Center room T-116.
Campus holds workshop to help students plan for study abroad
Associated Students, Inc. Project Connect and SF State Study Abroad Program will host a workshop to help students gain information to study abroad.
The workshop will include information on study abroad locations, how to obtain financial aid and scholarships to study abroad and interviews from past students that have studied abroad.
The workshop will take place in the Cesar Chavez Student Center in room T-160 (upstairs on the Terrace level), from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 7. Visit the event website to RSVP.
ASI Legal Resource Center gives students of free legal advising
The Associated Students Inc. Legal Resource Center‘s open house event on Sept. 27 will allow students to learn about the free and low cost legal support available on campus.
The Legal Resource Center is available to students for legal advising and volunteer opportunities.
The event will take place this Thursday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Legal Resource Center, located in the Cesar Chavez Student Center, room M-113A.
