The second-place Gators will take on the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes this weekend in a four-game series.

SF State looks to bounce back from its worst loss of the season on March 31, losing 14-3 to Cal State LA. The Gators have split their last two series and have fallen out of the NCAA Division II top-25 after spending two weeks at No. 17. The Gators remain at No. 4 in the NCBWA DII West Region Poll for the fourth consecutive week.

The Coyotes come into the series in last place in the California Collegiate Athletic Association standing at 7-20. The Gators’ 14-5 conference record trails UC San Diego by a half-game for the CCAA lead.

Senior infielder Gabe Chavez’s .400 batting average leads the Coyotes and is the second-highest average in the CCAA.

The Coyotes’ top pitcher is Tyler Williams. The junior shares the CCAA lead in innings pitched with 58 1/3 and his 58 strikeouts are only one shy of the conference lead.

With rain in the forecast this weekend in the Bay Area, the series will now shift to Southern California and be played at the Coyotes’ Fiscalini Field. A home series for SF State now becomes an away series.

The series will begin at 6 p.m. Friday under the lights.

Saturday will consist of a doubleheader that begins at 1 p.m., with the latter’s first pitch scheduled for 4 p.m.

The final game of the series will tip off at 11 a.m. on Sunday.

SF State is nearing almost two months of playing games away from Maloney Field, with the team hosting just four games at home this season.

The program’s last true home game was on Feb. 12 against Simpson University in a 3-3 tie that was cut short due to darkness.
