For a second-straight year, the SF State Women’s Track and Field team are crowned California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) champions, which earned the entire program Gator of the Week honors for the week of April 29 – May 5, the athletic department announced on Monday, May 6.
Gators women’s track and field, ranked No. 12 in the nation, successfully defended their CCAA title this past weekend, finishing the conference postseason championships with top finishes in 10-of-21 events.
Senior sprinter Alexis Henry finished her stellar weekend with two individual gold medals in the 200-meter and 400-meter events. With a little under three weeks out from the 2019 NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships, Henry posted provisional marks and NCAA Division II-leading times in both events.
The Gators also dominated the relay races, winning both the 4×100 meter and 4×400 meter relay events. SF State also cleaned up in most of the field events as well, earning gold in five-of-nine field events at the championships. After back-to-back CCAA titles, women’s track and field deservedly so earned Gator of the Week honors, following softball’s recognition last week who make their first NCAA tournament since 2006.
