The California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) 2019 Baseball Tournament begins on Wednesday, May 8th at 3 p.m. for SF State, where the Gators take on the Cal State Monterey Bay Otters at Banner Island Ballpark in Stockton, California.
The Gators concluded the season with a 23-19-1/21-19 CCAA record and were swept by Sonoma State in their final series of the season on Saturday, May 4, the program’s Senior Day.
Cal State Monterey Bay finished their regular season with a 31-19/29-15 CCAA record and a 3-1 series win against Cal State San Bernardino. Monterey Bay is rolling and the Gators have their work cut out for them.
In their regular season matchup, the Otters edged the Gators with a 3-1 series win, which started a stretch of poor play from the Gators down the final stretch of the season, where the team went 3-9 in their final 12 games.
The Gators will need to keep the third-best scoring team in the CCAA from getting comfortable. SF State will need their pitching, ranked fourth in the conference in ERA, to step up and make it difficult for the Otters to score.
The white-hot 12-1-1/7-1 CCAA early-season start feels like it was a long time ago. With the CCAA postseason on deck, the Gators need to sharpen their skills and return to their dominant early-season form.
