New Parents Council intended to keep parents of SF State students in the loop

She has been an active member of the college’s community ever since she graduated and says that she has seen how much the campus has really grown and evolved since she attended.

Her first semester at SF State she and her sister drove up from Southern California together. They unloaded the car and then she drove her sister to the airport so she could fly back home. Her parents never stepped foot on campus until she graduated.

She recalls a lack of community on campus when she attended SF State: On the weekends there was no one hanging out on or around campus. Today she says that much of this has changed. She sees a much livelier student body, people hanging out on campus and in the village near the dorm rooms both during and after school hours.

Nava is who Gumas called “the true leader” of the Parents Council. He is the one who contacted Gumas and asked her to be the founding president of the council because of her active role in the Alumni Association.

This is Nava’s second year working at SF State. His main goal for the University is to build a support base for the campus and its students. He wants parents who are interested in their child’s education to be a part of that support base.
