Forkin’ Marina
Most neighborhoods in San Francisco get a bad reputation because of crime, dirt or some other perceived malaise. However, bizarrely, the Marina seems to raise an eyebrow for the polar opposite reason. Most people scoff at the perceived affluence and snobbery that is often associated with the area. In the end, it doesn’t really matter how you feel about the neighborhood; it is impossible to deny that it has some stellar restaurants.
SWEET TOOTH
Kara’s Cupcakes
3249 Scott St.
I’m tired of every foodie bemoaning that cupcakes are “so over.” The staff at Kara’s probably is too, considering that at five years baking some of best cupcakes in the city these guys were way ahead of the curve and are still ahead of the game.
CHEAP EATS
Marina Submarine
2299 Union St.
Has a sub sandwich ever done you wrong? Marina Submarine has all the classic fixins’ with special touches like homemade tomato sauce. Build your own or choose from their sandwich menu.
ROMANTIC
Isa
3324 Steiner St.
Isa boasts what is probably the most romantic patios for a date in the whole city. Lined with twinkling strings of lights and made cozy by gas heaters, this is a great place to enjoy French food and a date any time of year.
WILDCARD
Umami Burger
2184 Union St.
The much-talked-about gourmet burger joint has only been open in the Marina for a few months but has already won over those obsessed with burgers. No visit here would be complete without trying their signature burger–caramelized onions, Parmesan crisp and all.
