After splitting a doubleheader match Saturday, the SF State men’s baseball team failed to salvage a win today against the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros losing 8-4. With the loss, the Gators dropped to 14-32 and 9-27 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association where as the Toros improve to 22-23 and 17-19 in the CCAA.
In all accounts, this four-game series was full of ups and downs. Cal State Dominguez Hills took the series 3-1 while SF State hit the ball pretty well, but also made some costly errors. Junior right-handed pitcher Jonathan Boersma picked up the win for the Toros throwing four innings and allowing two runs on five hits and senior right-handed pitcher Michael Cruz recorded the save throwing three and a third innings.
On the other hand, senior right-handed pitcher Nic Banaugh was credited with the loss as he gave up five runs (one of which was earned) on seven hits, and walked two batters in five innings. Senior infielder Carlos Leyva finished the game with three RBIs and went 2-5 for the Toros. His teammate, senior outfielder Kevin Pillar, also contributed with three hits and scored two runs.
For the Gators, junior outfielder Dustin Wold raised his team-high .316 batting average as he went 3-4 with an RBI-single. SF State will play their final four-game series of the season when they host the Cal State Stanislaus Warriors May 6.
