The Sutro and J. Paul Leonard libraries will host the Winter is Here “Game of Thrones” pop-up exhibit on campus Wednesday, April 10, at 12:30 p.m.

The exhibit, hosted in the first floor of the Library adjacent to Peet’s, will showcase different materials that inspired “Game of Thrones” author George R. R. Martin to write the fantasy series. According to Mattie Taormina, director of the Sutro Library, the archived resources shown at the exhibit will include swords, armor, books and even hair.

As the medieval drama is slated to premiere the first episode of its final season April 14, library coordinators thought this event was a timely way to give insight on the history behind the popular show. Taormina hopes this exhibit will give students a sense that libraries can be fun.

“The idea of this pop-up is to show the students that libraries can be a fun, educational experience,” Taormina said. “It doesn’t just have to be driven by a class visit, a class paper or a quiet place to study.”

According to Taormina, this is the Sutro Library’s second year doing a pop-up exhibit on a work of literature. Last year, their pop-up exhibit was called Books That Belong in Hogwarts Library and was centered around the “Harry Potter” series.

The “Game of Thrones” pop-up exhibit is free to guests. Taormina said students and faculty are welcome to stop by and enjoy various historical underpinnings that went into the creation of “Game of Thrones.”
