The Ins & Outs: How you measure up in bed doesn't depend on penis size

Time to put this to rest: Size isn’t all that matters. And your penis is probably bigger than you think.

It’s not about the size of the ship, it’s the motion of the ocean.

“Larger size doesn’t mean they know what to do with it,” said Alexandria Andrews, office assistant in Associated Students, Inc.’s sex-positive program EROS.

Newsflash: the average size of a man’s erect penis is between 5 to 6.5 inches, according to the Kinsey Institute, while the circumference — the distance around the shaft — is an average of 4 to 5 inches. The measurements have been like that since Alfred Kinsey conducted his original study in 1948.

Take that, size queens.

Only 55 percent of men are satisfied with the size of their penises, according to a 2007 study published in the “British Journal of Urology” by urologists Kevan Wylie and Ian Eardley. Twelve percent of men surveyed thought their penises were small, 66 percent said average and only 22 percent said large. Yet, 85 percent of women surveyed are actually satisfied with the size of their partners’ penises.

Keep in mind that penis measurements run the gamut. The smallest recorded penis was only 0.39 inches long, a tiny penis even by micropenis standards. Then there’s Jonah Falcon, the man who got stopped at the San Francisco International Airport in July by TSA because they thought he had a hidden package in his pants — and he did. Falcon holds the record as the man living with the largest penis in the world. According to Rolling Stone magazine, Falcon’s penis is 9.5 inches flaccid and 13.5 inches erect.

You might be thinking that the guy is blessed, but most women could never accommodate a penis of this size. The length of an aroused vagina is roughly 5 to 6 inches, far too small to handle a double-digit penis. Some women can fit and enjoy large members, but this is not the norm.

“Some people like the feeling of being full, but you could get a dildo to get the same finesse,” said Kayla Douglas, director of EROS, adding that not everyone gets off with the help of a penis during internal penetration.

Women orgasm in a variety of ways, as do men. Study up on erogenous zones and spend lots of time on foreplay to get to know what your partner likes, which is a much better way to please them than repeated ramming into the chosen orifice and hoping for mutual sexual satisfaction.

Try positions to maximize depth of penetration, such as doggy style or reverse cowgirl.

Douglas recommends that men learn alternative methods even more valuable during a sexual encounter, including oral and manual sex abilities. Get skilled with various toys and other tools of seduction. Let your creativity flow and your partner will be begging for more.

“Nothing’s going to make it bigger, so enjoy what you got,” Douglas said.

  • Cassie Becker’s article is so right on, I wish I could give her a hug. The big problem we all face is the constant media obsession and hype about big penis size being better. Porn is a major contributor. This affects both sexes. A young woman got together with her friends. They asked her how sex was with her new boyfriend. She expressed concern that he had a small penis. Her friends all replied “you can work around that”. She said- “oh, the sex is very good. But he has such a small penis”. She was hung up on his not being hung in spite of good sex. So men feel insecure and it affects confidence. The real truth is that the G-spot is only 2-3 inches up the interior front wall of the vagina. The clitoris is essentially external. So any guy with a bit of knowledge about female anatomy can please and satisfy most women using as Cassie says, oral, manual and toys as well as his penis. After all, lesbians satisfy each other and they don’t have a penis. An English urology study by doctors found that couples where the man had a micropenis (under 2.75 inches erect) had a had a statistically very high percentage of happy couples who stayed together. Maybe he tried harder, maybe he was more anxious to please. In humans, the biggest sex organ is the brain.

  • Unfortunately, you’re also full of assumptions. You make the first mistake of assuming the guy doesn’t know what to do with it. which is false. Provided it’s not cockiness (pun recognized), confidence is also an asset.

There are also plenty of physical things that someone overendowed can do, though often it’s not the length. For example, long slow strokes, rubbing agains tthe outside without actual penetration, for instance. Combined with the girth, it’s a sensation.

Also, please don’t ignore the mental stimulation, either. Sometimes just holding it with both hands with room to spare can be exciting – provided she’s into that.

It all falls back to preference, as usual.
