VIDEO: Filipino American community enhances cultural presence

From their involvement in the Civil Rights Movement to their continuing struggle today to help the Filipino WWII Veterans acquire benefits, the Filipino American community of San Francisco continuously expands its rich history.

Filipino American community leaders in San Francisco in the ’60s paved the way for generations after them to become community leaders themselves. With events such as the 10th annual Parol Lantern Festival and Parade,¬†we begin to see the emergence of a new generation of FIlipino American community leaders ready and willing to do work in San Francisco.

Eric Pido, assistant professor of Asian American studies at SF State, explains the significance of community events like the Parol Lantern Festival while League of Filipino Students (LFS) – SFSU member, Maricon Malimban, explains how she became involved in organizing events for the Filipino community of San Francisco.
