One Billion Rising moves SF to dance for awareness

On Feb. 14 — the day otherwise known as Valentine’s Day — people all around the world chose to dance for domestic abuse awareness.

Hundreds of people gathered in front of City Hall of San Francisco to participate and support One Billion Rising, a woman’s advocacy group, who sought to educate the general public on the travesties that befall women all around the world. Approximately three dozen members of the group organized the flashmob that marked their 15th anniversary.

A United Nations report found that one in three women will be raped or beaten in her lifetime, and One Billion Rising is a movement in response to the women who have been abused.
