University Corporation seeks replacement for Asia Express vendor

University Corporation released a Request For Proposals April 3 inviting businesses to apply for tenancy in the Cesar Chavez Student Center.

The RFP process will determine which business takes over the lease for current proprietors Frank and Shally Meng, who operate Asia Express on the lower level of the student center.

Before UCorp can consider a new leaseholder, the incoming vendor must first come to a tentative agreement with the Mengs, according to the RFP. Other requirements include three to five years experience in the food service industry and a business concept that complements existing campus offerings.

Compliance with the University’s policy of 20 percent sustainable food and zero waste by 2020 is also outlined in the RFP, as well as hiring practice and insurance requirements.

UCorp will host an informational tour April 17 for interested businesses and proposal submissions are due by May 15.
