Victim reports on-campus rape to University police

A rape was reported at Mary Ward Hall Nov. 21, according to SF State’s crime, arrest and fire log.

Officers responded to the victim and took a report around 6 a.m., according to the crime log, which states that the victim was incapable of providing consent.

SF State’s director of news and news media Jonathan Morales said that the University could not comment on the incident in order to protect the victim and because the investigation is currently ongoing.

“Our focus is on the victim right now and making efforts so that something like this doesn’t happen again,” Morales said.

Two separate sex-related crimes were reported to the University Police Department since Oct. 1, according to SF State’s crime log.

A victim reported being kidnapped near Tapia Drive and Holloway Avenue by two unknown people between Nov. 13-14. The victim was taken to an unknown location where she said she was penetrated with a foreign object, according to the police log.

UPD responded to a call Oct. 1 at the Student Services building of a subject who needed to speak with police. The suspect reported being sexually assaulted on campus with restraint and false imprisonment Sept. 30.

An indecent exposure at University Park South was also reported Thursday.

University of California, Berkeley has been on alert after a female student reported being kidnapped from campus then sexually assaulted Friday, Nov. 20, according to a crime alert from UC Berkeley’s police department. UC Berkeley campus police said that the incident is the campus’ seventh sexual assault this year, as reported by ABC7 News.

According to SF State’s 2015 Campus Security and Fire Report, four rapes were reported on campus during 2013 and five during 2014. All incidences were reported to have occurred within SF State’s residence community.

Morales recommended that students visit SF State’s Title IX website to learn how to prevent and protect themselves against sex-related crimes.
