This week, local leaders, scientists and nonprofits from around the world will convene at the Moscone Center in downtown San Francisco to discuss commitments toward environmental change and the positive strides many leaders have already made in their communities.

The dignitaries will be “demonstrating how the tide has turned in the race against climate change and inspiring deeper national commitments in support of the Paris Agreement,” according to a summit press release.

They are “critical agents who can not only help unleash the opportunities from climate action but catalyze the world’s presidents and prime ministers to go further and faster, too,” stated the summit website.

The event happens Wednesday through Friday with notable figures in attendance, such as former Vice President Al Gore, former White House Chief of Staff John Podesta and California Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi.

Hundreds of affiliated events will also be held around the city in conjunction with the summit and environmental conservation, including discussions around indigenous people and renewable energy, how to protect businesses from global megaforces, a hike into a redwood forest and much more.
